Where a conventional home rental of one-month for an SCD could exceed $750.00, medcomdirect's program is capped at $478.00 for a one-month's rental of an SCD including the sleeves, if you just need the controller (pump), that would be $275. 

While some sports injury home  use of an SCD requires only a few weeks of use in the home, having the one month rental period allows for us to ship the foot pump to a patient PRIOR to their surgery, allowing them to be oriented on the equipment, their caregiver to become familiar with the equipment and an over felling of comfort with their rehabilitation equipment.  The patient is able to call us, review their set-up information, all while NOT on mind numbing drugs.  They may have an injury, but because they are prior to surgery, they are not on heavy pain narcotics, and can clearly understand the directions for use of the equipment.  While an SCD can be very useful in rehabilitating sports injuries, it really shines when a patient has chronic edema, or swelling.  The usual diagnosis for a home SCD could be for a paraplegic, quadriplegic and later stages of diabetes.  This use can exceed a months rental and many times requires lifetime use.

The SCD machine is simple to use.  It consists of a controller connected by an air supply hose to a pair of specially designed inflation Sleeves.  The Sleeves are rapidly inflated by the controller and gently squeeze the ankles, calves, and thighs in turn to enhance the circulation of the legs and lower body.
